Churchill Square is a busy town centre shopping destination in Brighton, on the south coast. In 2022, the centre closed its main customer toilet area for a multi-million pound overhaul. Whilst updating the main toilet areas, plans were approved to include a raft of additional facilities – accessible WCs, mother & baby areas, a prayer room, and a Changing Places toilet.

Graham Construction were appointed as the main contractor for the project, and building on our relationship with the company, we were delighted to be asked to assist with the installation of the Changing Places toilet facility.

The initial site visit highlighted some immediate challenges with the proposed layout, and these were addressed easily with the Graham design team. The proposed layout required a small amount of editing to ensure that the room was compliant. This included the relocation of the entrance door to enable the door to open beyond 90 degrees, ensuring that the clear space through the door exceeded the 1000mm required width.

Providing detailed drawings for other trades to work to, and managing the process through the Trimble Construction One™ portal, made for a straightforward lead into the construction phase.

We installed a GoLift ceiling hoist, and due to the construction of the partition walls, the system was mounted on our slim-line wall posts removing the requirement for extra pattressing.  A thermostatic shower was installed over the Premium 200 shower bench. A height adjustable basin and wall-mounted privacy screen complemented the equipment, with all the remaining accessories being installed prior to handover.

We supported the client with a training session for their key security and support staff and made the registration application to Changing Places to display the facility on the national database.

A great project with a fantastic finish!
